On August 11th, the Underground will be hosting our 3rd annual backpack building event at 7pm at Wintonbury Church located at 54 maple ave in Bloomfield, CT. This year we're going to build 370 back-to-school backpacks for survivors of sex trafficking or those at high risk. This is the most backpacks we have ever built -- and we need your help!
We will need volunteers to assemble the backpacks. We are also requesting donations for this very large undertaking. The cost of each bag is approximately $25. You can donate online or make checks payable to Wintonbury Church with "The Underground" in the memo line.
We want survivors of sex trafficking or those at high risk to start off school on a positive note and prepared to learn just like any other youth. The backpacks are filled with essential school supplies, such as notebooks, pens, etc. They are also equipped with bracelets with the National Human Trafficking Hotline number, as well as info cards telling youth where they can get help. DCF uses the backpacks to teach minors about trafficking and how to stay safe. We also insert special encouragement cards in the backpacks containing messages of hope and positivity.
