The Underground received 516 Back to School Backpack requests from the Connecticut Department of Children and Families; and from Love 146, CIRI, and NAFI. These agencies serve children and youth who are at risk of being trafficked.
Each year these backpacks are distributed through August and provide opportunities for case workers to give information about ways vulnerable youth can receive help. Please help us build backpacks on August 2, 2019 at Wintonbury Church at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm).
Thank you to these churches who procured and assembled backpacks for this great cause:
Cornerstone Church - Cheshire, CT
VOX - New Haven, CT
Holy Rosary Parish - Ansonia, CT

What's Inside the Backpacks?
The backpacks are filled with essential school supplies, such as pens, notebooks, etc. They are also equipped with bracelets with the National Human Trafficking Hotline Number, as well as info cards telling youth where they can get help. We also bless each child with a note of encouragement inside the backpack.
Great thanks to the Youth and their Leaders of THP, and to the Walmart team in West Hartford who helped us get ready for the Backpack Project.
